MY FIRST MOTHER’S DAY

I NURTURED AND PROTECTED YOU
IN MY WOMB, ENCLOSED IN MY COCOON
TILL THE DATE YOU WERE DUE, READY FOR YOUR DEBUT
I ADORED YOUR SCENT; YOU WERE PRECIOUS AS I DREAMT
THOUGHT YOU WERE HEAVEN SENT
I WAS ENAMORED
BY YOUR CASCADING CURLS
AS IT FELL ON YOUR BROW
YOUR SMALL HANDS
YOUR TINY FEET AND YOUR FAT CHEEKS
I CHERISHED OUR JOURNEY OF FORTY WEEKS
I WANT TO BE UPFRONT
AND SAY, YOU ARE THE FIRST PERSON I LOVED
I AM GLAD I WAITED NINE LONG MONTHS
WHEN I SAW YOU
YOU WERE THE EPITOME OF PERFECTION
YOU HAD ALL MY AFFECTION
I AM PLEASED THAT I WAS, YOUR SELECTION
TO BRING YOU INTO THIS WORLD, AND ON THIS EARTH
 TO BE YOUR MOTHER
AND YOU THOUGHT OF NO OTHER
