It’s Christmas Time

ONCE AGAIN IT’S THE FESTIVE SEASON
FAMILIES AND FRIENDS GATHER
TO SOCIALIZE, HAVE FUN, AND REASON
HOMES ARE ADORNED WITH
ORNAMENTS AND DECORATIONS
CHRISTMAS CAROLS ARE
BLASTING ON RADIO STATIONS
THE AIR IS FILLED WITH JUBILATION
EVERYWHERE THERE ARE CHRISTMAS TREES
SMALL, TALL, MAJESTIC, AND GREEN
SOME ARTIFICIAL, SOME REAL
THE TREES ARE BEAUTIFIED AND BRIGHTLY LIT
CHILDREN SPIRITS GLEEFULLY LIFT
AS THEY UNWRAP THEIR CHRISTMAS GIFTS
THEN COMES THE TREAT
SOME CALL IT THE FEAST
WITH LOTS OF FOOD TO EAT
SUCH AS MACARONI AND CHEESE
WE ALSO CONSUME RICE AND PEAS
WITH A VARIETY OF MEATS
NAMELY CHICKEN, PORK, FISH
GOAT AND OXTAIL
NO TIME TO THINK OF WEIGHT GAIN
OR GETTING ON THE SCALES
AND BEFORE, THE FESTIVITIES END
WE EAGERLY AWAIT THE DIVIDEND
A DESSERT KNOWN BY SEVERAL NAMES
CHRISTMAS-RUM, OR BLACK CAKE
IN WHICH EVERYONE PARTAKES
SO FAMILIES, FRIENDS, AND PEERS
WITH OUR GLASSES FULL OF SORREL
WE SAY CHEERS
WE WILL REPEAT THIS
JOLLIFICATION NEXT YEAR
